Being an online marketeer myself, I was really impressed at how the President-Elect used social media to create a groundswell of followers using grassroots social media and marketing programs like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. His marketing arm was savvy enough to use these tools to spread his message of change to the masses at no-cost. A very powerful campaign as it turns out based on the result. McCain and Palin were always one step behind and I think this was one of the reasons they lost the election.
So, now there are crickets heard in Obama World. No more Tweets, Facebook updates--nothing, nada.
This leaves me to ask a few question of you, dear readers. Are you disappointed in Obama for not keeping in touch with his fans post-election? Do you think the new President should continue using social media to communicate with the masses? On what level? To what end? I'd love to hear any thoughts or comments you might have on this subject.
If you want my opinion (I knew you would ask!), I think the new President should continue what he started and use social media to communicate with the citizens of the United States. Wouldn't it be cool for him to have some sort of Town Hall online? Possibly on Facebook? What about a monthly or weekly chat session where you could ask him anything? How amazing would it be to have a government that actually does care enough to listen to the masses and communicates directly with them using social networking tools? If change is truly in the cards for this country, an open communication channel between the President and the country using numerous online tools would prove it, at least to me.
