Today, you get to meet Gene Guy who is one of our designers at our www.simplybellawebdesign.com division. Here is the interview we had this week. Enjoy!
Gene, where do you find inspiration for your design work? I can find inspiration from many sources. From other websites, to magazines, to film trailers, and even video games. I try to absorb as much design as possible in order to keep the creative juices flowing.
What is the most important advice you can give our clients regarding design/navigation? Keep it simple. Design so that it is easy for users to quickly scan your pages for information. Use a visual hierarchy (the most important item on the page being the biggest element) to help users quickly identify and prioritize what they should look at on the page.
What is the most common mistake you see people making with their websites? Usually people make their pages way too busy. They try to put as much information as possible on a given page instead of breaking it up into multiple pages which is usually a better solution. Also most people make the mistake of using too many colors and fonts throughout their site.
Why do you enjoy designing websites? I love what I do because I’ve always been interested in motion graphics and design. Now with interactive design I’m able to get the best of both worlds on a daily basis.
