One of my favorite books to read time and again when I need ideas or encouragement is "Divine Wisdom at Work" Tricia Molloy, the author, and I met each other a few years ago and I was very impressed immediately with her as a person as well as an author. (If you get a chance to get her book, its a quick and wonderful read. It has helped me to reach some dreams I thought were not possible and build my business through the exercises she has within its pages. Phenomenally life changing!)
Tricia became a client of ours when she was ready to create her blog "Working with Wisdom." We helped her set it up on the Typepad platform and she hasn't looked back!
Here is an interview of Tricia about her experiences with blogging and social media over the past year:
How have blogging and social media changed the way you do business?
My blogging helps support my intention to build a Working with Wisdom community so visitors (who have often read my book and/or heard me speak) can be inspired and share their wisdom with the group.
Give us some examples of
clients or contacts you gained from blogging or other social
media efforts?
By posting articles on other sites, I have attracted people who have reached out to support my work with valuable leads. One professional graphic designer emailed that he was divinely guided to offer his services as a gift. He's jazzing up my PowerPoint presentation. Since I'm a writer and not a designer, I am very grateful. LinkedIn is also helping me connect and broaden my network. I've just begun to explore the power of Facebook. I recently hired a virtual assistant through an agency. At our first meeting, she told me she read my book three times. We had never met but last year she Googled "Divine," found my site, ordered my book through Amazon and became a fan. Now, we're working together. That's the Law of Attraction in action!
What was the one thing you did to increase your business in 2007 through Internet marketing?
Adding more video and audio to my site has helped increase interest in my work and business. Since I'm a professional speaker, video is essential. There's an audio welcome and video clip link on my home page. When I do radio, podcasts and TV interviews, I place the best ones on my Articles and Interviews page.
What do you want to tell others to do this year while they have a chance to make some Internet marketing changes?
- When appropriate, the more personal you can make your site--with good, friendly photos, audio and video, the more you will connect with the visitor and encourage them to engage your services.
- Add pages that they can contribute to. For me, it's my Stories page and, of course, my blog.
- Trust your own inner wisdom to decide what to pursue. There is a wealth of options and it can be very seductive. The savvy business person is selective.
